If there is one place in the world that is best to paddle and race, whether for fun, recreation or competition, it is the Philippines. It is all natural here. Our natural waters are at the backdrop of mountains and forest, with tropical breeze. Our warmth and smiley people make you naturally feel at home. Come and experience the Filipino hospitality, which has become a trademark in the world.
Being an archipelago of 7,107 islands, we are proud to have one of the longest coastlines in the world. Inland lakes and rivers that exist between islands are spread over 1,830 square kilometer of water. We have 16 seas and channels, 16 bays, 8 lakes and 61 rivers scattered throughout the islands. Isn't that amazing?
While boating, paddling and fishing is the main livelihood of people in our coastal communities, this has become a formal sport only in 1997 when the PCKF was founded by Dr. Sim Chi Tat.
From then on, no obstacle or challenges can stop the Filipinos from paddling far -- in search for a place in the world. We have 70 million children and young people yet untapped. We want to get them all into paddling. The Philippines' dream for that elusive gold in the Olympics will hopefully come from this sport.
So please COME AND EXPERIENCE PADDLING IN THE PHILIPPINES. For every club and country that come to participate in our November 2016 race, you are being watched by thousands of children and youth -- inspire the 70M Filipino young to race with us soon in this level.
