A Solo Show by Niño Hernandez

This one man show will run from December 08, 2016 to January 08, 2017 at 3rd Floor of Altro Mondo Picasso located at 119 L.P. Leviste Street, Salcedo Village, Makati City. Scratching the Surface is a solo show by Niño Hernandez.

   

Niño Hernandez is a graduate of the Philippine Women’s University with Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, with a major in painting. As a child, Niño Hernandez grew up learning from Filipino artist and good friend, Gus Albor. His work is also influenced by American and European Abstract Expressionism, particularly the "color fields" of Mark Rothko, and the Tachisme works of Antoni Tapies.

Niño's pieces are abstractions and, in some cases, exact representations of the surfaces of everyday objects such as leaks on walls, cracks on concrete, or corrosion on metal. His process involves laying out large expanses of color and highly tactile textures which he uses to blur the lines that separate these fields of color. Abstract being his style, he describe his art as "play of texture, color, line, shape and space". Deriving his inspiration from busted walls, pavements and watered down ceilings. His paintings aims to give his audience the freedom to interpret the artwork in his/her own way.

Niño is also an art teacher and a professional musician dividing his time as a guitarist, percussionist, and flutist, and also happens to be a bamboo flute maker. He has performed with famous local artists in the Philippines such as Grace Nono, Pinikpikan, Joey Ayala, Julianne, Cynthia Alexander and Kitchie Nadal. He is currently part of the band Loquy.

Harringtons Auctions Century Pieces Anew

To some, an auction is simply a commercial event but to discerning buyers, bidders and avid collectors, it is a serious yet an artful business of bidding.

Highlights of Harringtons’ “Treasures of the Century” auction include over fifty remarkable and prized vintage items owned by avid collector and national hero Jose Rizal descendant Dina Velasco. A vintage “Escritoire” desk in solid tigerwood and teakwood will be among the items that will be auctioned off.

Velasco, who collects precious collectibles as a hobby, knows and understands the beauty of auctions. “We enjoy the history behind each purchase. It’s great to be surrounded by things that go back centuries. I’m wonderfully amazed at the thought that most of these objects have travelled far and have been passed through generations before landing in my home. I think it’s terrific,” Velasco mused in an interview with Living Annual.

Other auction highlights include captivating art wood mosaic pieces by Bagac Wood Mosaic Artists, a group of people from Bagac, Bataan who used to be farmers. Despite dealing with the difficulties of poverty, the group opted to pursue art not only to make a living but also to make a name for their hometown.

Another highlight of the upcoming Harringtons auction is artist Eduardo Castrillo’s intricately designed Crucifix. The 18”x29” delicately sculptured bronze Crucifix depicts the artist’s Christian beliefs and his way of honoring Jesus Christ’s sacrifice.

Eternal Coin Launch and Token Hub Asia's 1st Year Anniversary Party

Last 20th October 2016, people from various industries were gathered at The Peninsula Manila for its #Applaunchparty2016 and at the same time it was the 1st year anniversary celebration of Token Hub Asia in our country. 

Most of the guests arrived at around 5 o’clock in the afternoon for the registration at the Rigodon Ballroom. Everything was set and all looks really classy as they enter the hall towards their tables. The entire hall was filled with excitement as the participants were just busy browsing our brochure and comic that tells about of who we are in the business. 

Program started a bit late since the guests were still coming in past 6 o’clock. Live voice announcement was then heard all over the hall as the event hosts were finally introduced, Gerhard Krysstopher and Rissey Reyes who are both cast members of Hi-5 Philippines and TV commercial models graced this momentous event.

A welcome message was delivered by Mr. John Raphael Flor, Vice Sales and Marketing Manager and Acting Chief Executive Officer of Token Hub Asia here in the Philippines as he talked even more bout innovation, technology and the business as the future of financial services in the country. He then introduced the team who attended the event as they came all the way from Tokyo, Japan. Key persons from Atom Solutions Inc and Eternal Link in Tokyo were all present during this launch.  Mr. Onodera Toshiaki, President of Eternal Link in Japan sent a video message as he talked briefly about its operations and now it has come here in the Philippines, lastly he then again introduced Mr. Flor for his product presentation considering he was even surrounded by people with their curious minds about the service and how the system works.

Mr. John Flor did not go directly presenting on what the company has to offer instead he has given the general public a concise but informative background of other business models which is in the same concept for Eternal Coin and its services.The presentation has given its emphasis on the low cost money remittance in which Token Hub Asia, its local exchange is embracing as part of its corporate branding. Everyone seems to be very overwhelmed and has been wondering the direction of this company when it comes to their local operations.

Sumptuous dinner was served and at the same time there were surprises that came along after each segment part of the program. “Facebook Like Contest” was a fad and one of the event highlights during that evening.

It became more exciting when popular cosplayers in the country were present and they were all fascinating. Guests came to them to have their selfies taken and shared its official hashtag for this event.Cos-crew website from Japan was even introduced to the Filipino market since the local cosplayers are all registered on this site prior their appearance that night.

The night became even more memorable during the Mr. & Ms. Token Hub Asia 2016 as the key persons from Atom Solutions Inc. And Eternal Link in Tokyo has chosen the best among the rest during this event. The intense feeling was felt by everyone when the 3 winners of Eternal coin was announced and they were rewarded by coins transferred to them directly on the spot and got even excited when they found out that these are convertible to cash equivalent. The night was filled with happiness and curiosity as the hosts wrapped up the program and as the acting CEO stated on his speech “This is now the future of financial services here in the Philippines, so are we up for the CHANGE?”

From then on, no obstacle or challenges can stop the Filipinos from paddling far -- in search for a place in the world. We have 70 million children and young people yet untapped. We want to get them all into paddling. The Philippines' dream for that elusive gold in the Olympics will hopefully come from this sport.

2016 Guam Thanksgiving Day Dragon Boat Festival

Mindset Events and Production, a Philippine Organization, in partnership with the Guam ACES (Athletes, Communities, Educators, Students) Incorporated, a Non-Profit Organization based in Tamuning, Guam, with the prime purpose of instituting programs for the development of Athletes, Communities, Educators and Students in Guam and other neighboring countries, in organizing the “2016 Guam Thanksgiving Day Dragon Boat Festival” on November 18-20, 2016 at Matapang Beach in Tumon, Guam.

It's the first International Dragon Boat Race that Guam will host thru Guam ACES, Inc. The goal and concept of the event is designed to enhance relationships through friendly competition among the local and international club crews. We believe that this event will allow the exchange of cultural experiences among different Dragon Boat Clubs from other countries and putting Guam as one of the Dragon Boat venues in the world. Participating countries are Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Local Crews from Guam.

Dragon Boating, the second fastest growing sport in the world is on its way to becoming firmly established as a recreational and competitive team sport in Guam. For the past years, Guam held races for the locals and Guam have participated in International Events but never hosted one.
